Perth, being the most isolated capital city on the world is the Capital of Western Australia and actually closer to South East Asia than the rest of Australia! With a population of 1.6 million, it's the fourth largest city in Australia and famous for it's massive mining and natural resources extraction industry.
This makes Perth Australia's fastest growing city, with one of the highest incomes (which can make things quite expensive) and lots of amenities focused on the young, mostly male mining community who fly in and out of the city to outlying towns each week.
It's proximity to Asia has resulted in a very diverse population, with migrants (and food) from countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and South Africa. Climate wise, the temperature is hot and dry during summer, with mild (but wet) winters.
There is plenty to do including visiting the numerous beaches dotted along the coastline, check out Kangaroos in their very own zoo, go swimming or hiking, taste the local wines and beers (Perth is home to some of the best wineries and microbreweries - especially Little Creatures) and some of the best music festivals in the country. Make sure you pack your Parte styling clay if you are going clubbing!
